I am looking to buy a WI-FI enabled handheld. I was looking at the HPs and emailed HP sales wondering if the Windows handheld OS could run software other than what comes bundled with it and they said it could not. The reason I want it is so I can login to our office UNIX server over SSH and run other miscellaneous software which was developed in house. Its so in case of emergency I can find a hot spot, log into the server, and trouble shoot the server problem from anywhere. Specifically I need to run Putty.

Any ideas on if this is possible or what I can purchase?

Thanks!

I have no idea what HP Sales are on (Drugs???) - the iPaq (and any other PPC) are able to run other software - it has to be written for a pocketPC though - see or - the Dell Axim x3 wifi has WiFi built in - plus a SDIO Compliant SD Slot - and is cheaper than the equivilent HP iPAQ unit.

I am sure you can get PPC's running a VNC app, then you just need to get a VNC client running on the Unix Server.

sounds fun!

Thanks for the response. It kinda sounded wrong to me to. But it HAS to be written for the PPC? I am trying to run Putty, an SSH client and maybe our in-house proprietary software. Thanks much.
