sharing xp printer with 98 2

On our lan we have one xp laptop, one 98 pc, and three 2000 Pro pcs. I have the printer connected to the xp machine shared. I was able to set up the 2000 pcs to print to it easily. When I browse the network from the 98 pc, the xp machine shows up, but no printer does. I have the guest acct. enabled on the xp. I also enabled the option for logins with no user to use the guest acct. Still no printer shows up.
I'm not very familiar with xp. Am I missing something easy?

Mightyscotchpine, have you resolved this. I'm having the same problem.

Check is the share name of the printer. If a printer name doesn't meet certain characteristics, I have seen Win2K and XP machines see the printer while a Win98 machine didn't. Try something simple, like "printer" and see if it helps.

When looking for the network printer, you have to type in the NETBIOS name of the printer and then exact name of the printer. As stated above, printer share name can be no longer than 8 characters.

For the XP Machine, go to simple file sharing. That is under Folder Options. (You want it set to be opposite what it is when it starts up. I can't remember right now which way it has to be. But if it is checked, uncheck and if it is unchecked, try checking. Then restart.) After playing with that check, you will have a new tab for your printer options. I think it is labeled Security, and you can specify who can print there.

Another thing is you should make a login account on the 98 machine with the same login as one onn the XP machine.

Thanks guys and gals. It was, in fact a problem with the printer share name. They had shared it as [/b]laptop hp, and while xp and win2k saw it with no problem, 98 couldn't.
