I'm just in the last stages of preparing the rollout of SBS at our offices but was just wondering if there was any way to share a whole drive and map it to users rather than just sharing certain folders? We operate a hot-desking scheme and will be using roaming profiles, would this cause an issue?

Sorry, I'm very new to SBS and servers in general so an idiots guide is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

You can share an entire drive by opening My Computer and right mouse click the drive you want to share and click properties.

From there you can create a new share in the sharing tab and then set the share permissions (allowing people to view and modify the share) and you will also need to set permissions in the security tab (allowing people to modify the folders and files within the share). I do not recommend this method due to security reasons. If you do go this route i recommend having an isolated drive or partition for this share so that your system files and server data is not accessable by anyone on the network. Also be very stingy with your user rights in both the share and security tab. only give the minimum rights needed to do the operation. You can also set specific rights for individual folders within the drive to lock it down even more (by using the security tab in the properties dialog for the folder you want to set permissions on).

Let me know how this works out for you or if you have any more questions.
