I have a serial data cable. I have a laptop with xp and a computer with win 98. I want to transfer my website to my laptop in order to burn onto cd rom. i dont have a cd rw on my win 98 only on my xp. my site is about 16 Mb. i want to do this so i can pload from my mates house where there is broadband. Are there any suggestions? Can anyone help. How do i share folders and files using my data cable? what other ways apart from buying a cd rw are there?

Thanks

If you have network cards in both machines it would be easier and faster. All you would need is a crossover cable between them.

thats one quick reply. i just posted it. But dont i need a server to put them on a network??? and whats a crossover cable, is that just a technical terem for a cable to connect them up?

bob is right with this one, just go to a cpu store and get a cross over cable (yes it is like a cat5 but the connections are crossed over so the two cpu's can talk to eachother without assistance of a hub or server). then you will be able to copy to your hearts desire.

What they're all talking about is a Peer to Peer network. No server, and no other hardware or software to buy.
All you need is the CAT5 crossover cable, and some network protocalls (built in to Windows).
Hook them up with the cable, and run the Network wizard on the XP machine, create the diskette in the last step, and then run it on the 98 machine.
Open explorer, right click on the folder(s) you want to share on each machine, select Sharing and security, choose to share this folder. Make the permissions both read and write, so you can do everything from one computer. No need to go back and forth from one to the other, and you should be all set. Cheers,
Jim
