Hello,

I have windows 2003 running as a DHCP server, and it apears to work fine as that (currently anyway).

However,

I want to be able to share a folder (basically being a file server aswell) with windows XP Pro machines. Ive created the folder, set it to share with unlimited connections, and in the share permissions ive set it to everyone and allowed them full control.

How can I get the XP machines to see and access this folder in their 'My Network Places'?

I am able to \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\Folder - however it then asks me to log in - which I can do if i put in the username and password I use to log into the 2003 machine. If i go to the XP machine and go to add a network place, I can go to the workgroup and see the machine im on 'Machine3' and 'Server'. Under Machine3 i see the standard share folders however Server has nothing under it (not showing the folder im trying to share).

I dont have 2003 set up as a domain server, and I removed the domain stuff with active directory as I dont know enough about it.

Am I doing something wrong or missing a step ?

You can either go back to a domain setup, or you'll have to establish the same usernames and passwords on the server as are used on each XP workstation.

In a business environment, you should be running a domain.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

So it is different from sharing folders between XP machine to XP machine?

If I were to make the 2003 machine a Domain, is there an easy guide or some tips you can give me for allowing the xp machines to pick up what im after ?
