Hi

I am installing 827 routers for ADSL access for small businesses. I'm a bit new to this, and am having trouble getting the connection shared among a windows 2000 workgroup.

I have followed all the steps I am aware of, set up DHCP, default gateway and gone through the process of connecting in 2000, but can't get there. The connection is fine from the host PC, but the others just won't see it.

I realise this is basic stuff for some of you, but I can't get relevant help anywhere online. Everything seems to rely on using a modem and sharing this. Is there a site that deals with this particular scenario?

Grateful for any advice

I am not certain, but, it sounds like the same problem that I had with my home network. I am using cable but I think the same applies to ADSL.

When your ADSL connex is set up, your ISP allows access to a single MAC address (the physical address of the originally connected PC - or other host). What you need to do is copy the MAC address of your original host onto the router.

Now from the ISP's side of the network, the original host looks as though is still connected (the router is now the "origianl" host due to the MAC address) and the service continues as normal, while your router allows ADSL access to the other hosts via DHCP (make sure they are all set up to accept DHCP IP addressing).

So you need to find out :

A. What is the MAC address of your original host
B. How to map a MAC address onto the *WAN side of
your router
. The router should have instructions on
how to do this.

[* The port that your ADSL line plugs into]

If you have trouble maping the MAC address, all I can suggest is that you contact your ISP and tell them that you want to register a new MAC addresss with them (the routers WAN side MAC address).

Hope this helps

Let me know how you get on.
