Here is my problem.....I have computer with a large microsoft access database . I need for my friend to be able to get this database and make changes whenever he needs to from his home....(adding entries...or changing entries)...but I will be making changes also. The problem that I can't figure out is how do we keep this one database file in sync on both of our computers. In other words...if he makes a change....I need that change on my computer also......We both have a LAN internet connection....and we do both have pc anywhere....but is there something built into access that will sync these these two together....(hope this does not confuse anybody) thanks in advance for any help....

I dont think that there is something like that, i think that only SQLlike databases do replications.
But i'm not totally sure about that.

I know how to replicate......just can't figure out how to synchronize the 2 files over the internet!

You mean that you dont know how to make the replication over the internet?
Cause relpication and synchronaization means the same.

then you are correct....I don't know how to do via the internet......is there a simple way of doing this....I just need to keep to computers at different locations in syc. there is a data base that me and a friend will be updating at different times.....I just need my friend to be able to add and edit entries....he will not be changing the format of the database........please help

This may sound dumb, but if the database resides on your pc, why don't you just let him access your pc over the net as needed?
And if it resides on another machine, like I have some on my server at work, several of us can access it and make changes without having to worry about syncing things - we do have problems on occasions when several are trying to use it to make changes at the same time, is all....

Anyway to replicate a db in access you have to map a drive either you or your friend

Then open your file and go Tools-Replication-Create Replica,

Browse to the map drive to what folder you want to create the replicable database,
press ok (there is a check box if you want to set which of the two files will be the original. Leave it unchecked)

Now you can use your db file to make changes

any time you will like to synchronize the two files

Tools->Replication->Synchronize now..

and the name of the replica will now be sellected, if you press ok then the replication will take plase

But you have to know that this is very dangerous, cause you or your friend, will have a share drive over the internet, so you have to make a very good set of the firewall.

Else, somebody outhere will surely blow up your drive.

My opinion is to use RAdmin or something like it and just 'File transfer' the file to each other everytime you want to use it.

Good Luck
