Ok, I am on a Win 2003 server trying to get to a shared folder on an XP Pro machine. Error is no network provider...

This should be a no brainer. 2003 IP =.101, XP =.100. Cable modem coming to house both are on wireless. Gateway=.1

I can't even ping the .100 machine. I can ping the .1 and both PC's can get on internet.

What could be preventing me from seeing this other machine?

Thanks.

Rick

Does your wireless gateway have a firewall in place? Are there any firewalls (such as software firewalls) that may be causing your error? Are all the Gateway's configured correctly?

Just so you know, there is a Windows 2003 forum:

You should be able to ping any IP address on the same subnet unless something is preventing you from doing so, which something obviously is. If you can ping the router from both machines but not machine to machine, the router is more than likely at fault.

You may also want to ROUTE PRINT on one machine to see if the ping is looking in completely the wrong direction.

Maybe try and disconnect or close the internet connection for a short while to see if the router is forwarding your network requests onto the web rather than locally.

Thank you both for your response. I have a wireless Linksys router and I cannot find the user and password to get to the settings. It is probably the default so if anyone knows the default user and password for linksys that would help. I will check the linksys website.
