Does anyone know how to edit sharepoint web controls?

Some examples of SPSWC:

<SPSWC: CustomCSSResourceElement runat="server"/>
<SPSWC:CategoryNavigationWebPart runat="server" id="HorizontalNavBar" DisplayStyle="HorizontalOneLayer" />

I wanted to edit the search box in sharepoint portal server which is a webcontrol...any help on this would be greatly appreciated

If you are talking about cosmetic changes to the search box - colour etc it is done with the css files and a gif. This article may help

If you want to change the way the search works, you would need to change stored procs in the db (not recommended) but I would suggest looking at 3rd party web parts for that. I'm not sure this is what you are after?

Actually I want to get rid of the dropdownlist item next to the search box. The SPSWC controls both the dropdownlist and the search box. Is there anyway you can modify the code to remove the dropdownlist?

Thanks in advance

Good question, I assume you want it to search everything all the time, but I dont think you can lose the dropdown box. You could maybe in the stored procs, (I havent looked to closely at them) set it to search everything there regardless of what is selected.

I'll put my hand up to say that we are a bit out of my depth though, and I hope someone else can shed some light on it.

Sorry.
