Hey everybody,
I've come across a rather interesting problem. We migrated a file and printer server to a new server. All of the printers were shared out the same on the new server. We used the same name on the new server to prevent mapping and printer issues. The thing that was really messed up was the printing. Even though the share names were the same, noone could print or view printer properties. Now here's the screwed up part, when we changed the printer descriptions to match the old ones, printing worked fine. What is the point of the share name if NT and 2000 using the description??? Another thing we discovered was if a user changed the description on the icon it would change on the server and everyone else who had that printer mapped would lose access to it. If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd really appreciate it. TIA
