Can anyone explain to me the concept of using shared numbervar. I am new to Crystal and am modifing an existing report that is using shared numbervar. I read the help from Crystal and still don't understand. What does a shared numbervar do?

A shared variable is used to pass a value from say the main report into a subreport. You can not use any other type of variable i.e Local or Global to pass a value from the main report to the subreport.

It basically works by storing a value thats been assigned to the variable and then allows you to use that value in a subreport.

An example for using this might be if you've got a total in a subreport for instance which you then want to use in a calculation in the main report. Using a shared variable will allow you to do this.

Does that help any or do you need more info?

Thanks.. It gives some clearity but when I look at this report it does have a subreport and the subreport group header and detail is suppress. I thought once you suppress anything in Crystal it would not run that suppress stuff. Right?

I am new to Crystal and will not have my training till November, so I am just using books for educating myself.

You can ordinarily suppress all sections WITHIN the subreport, but not the section of the main report in which the subreport is located, for the shared variables to work.
