Hi there

Situation
1 An Active Directory (AD) have numerous Registered Users (RU) to the Domain (DM) using Server 03 SP2.
2 Numerous PC running XPWin SP2 had joined the Domain and appears as PCs in the AD User / Computer dialog at the Server.
3 Numerous Shared Folders (SFd) in the Server are being shared allowing RU to access.
4 When a RU logon to the DM from one the the PC, after entering the his password, RU can access all the
SFd without further request from password; this is normal.

Issue
1 After a power failure, RU can still logon to the DM BUT...
2 To access the SFd, User password (PWd) will be asked.
3 After a number of tries of knocking with the PWd, RU can then access the SFd.
4 But on restarting the Server and the running PCs, the problem of of PWd reappear.

Note
1 Pinging with the TCP/IP address among all the PCs and server in both in/out has no problem at all.
2 One of the PC attached to another Switch don't seem to have this problem.

Question
1 How to check what's happening?
2 How to solve this?
Thanks in Advance.

Try rejoining the pc's to the domain and see if that helps had something like this befor and it fixed the issue for me.

Regards
Max
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

THANKS Max

Meanwhile I have tried the following:
1) I remove a user from the domain, and add it back, but the problem remains. (new doc/setting folder is created)
2) i have 2 pcs on win2k sp4, i remove one of them from the domain, rejoin. Problem is there is "time out" & "failed to join the domain".

I will keep u posted when i rejoin some of the limping pcs running xpwin sp2.

By the way in some pc, i had to use another user name when i tried to login to the shared folder in the server; OS does allow me to login with the current login user name.

CHEERS!!

Are the file server and Domain Controller the same server? If not, have you tried rebooting the DC? Maybe try to disable, then re-enable the file share on the file server. Check your DNS settings on all machines. Sounds like something is not authenticating to the DC.

Have you tried re-establishing the share i.e. remove the share and re-create it?

Thanks mates

Re: pgaliardo
1) File Server & DC on the same PC.
2) Already rebooted DC, no avail.
3) TCP address setting & network cards working ok. what do u exactly mean by "check DNS settings on all pcs"
4) will try yr idea of removing files sharing in the FSrv & keep u posted.

Re: 1tommany
1) do u mean re-establishing the share in the FSrv? Someone had suggested i re-establish from the workstation but i don't understand what he mean.

Cheers

More tinkering result

On one pc after login to the Domain, there was total failure to login in to a shared folder from whatever user name. By the way the shared folder is the root folder (c:\) of the server/DM pc; will this be the cause? Note I have this system working for years without any problem.

HOWEVER when i login to the same pc as Admin of the PC (not the domain), i can access the shared folder in the Server after providing any registered user name that has not login to the DM. Is this a hint to something. View PLEASE & THANKS IN ADVNACE
