Hi,

I've started playing with the Virtual I/O server and I've shared the ethernet and disks.
The problem is that my LPAR sees the ethernet adapter but my ping test fails in SMS.

ent2 Available Virtual I/O Ethernet Adapter (l-lan)
ent3 Available Virtual I/O Ethernet Adapter (l-lan)
vhost0 Defined Virtual SCSI Server Adapter
vhost1 Available Virtual SCSI Server Adapter
vsa0 Available LPAR Virtual Serial Adapter
vtscsi0 Available Virtual Target Device - Logical Volume
ent4 Defined Shared Ethernet Adapter
ent5 Available VLAN

ent4 is Defined but not Available and I cannot see a way to bring its status to Available.

Thanks...

ent4 should be available as soon as you create it. Have you configured ent4 with the mktcpip command?

I tried to configure with mktcpip and it came up with an error. Device in an unknown state.

I haven't installed the fixpack yet - thanks for the info.

I managed to get it working.
rmdev'ed all physical, virtual and shared adapters
ran cfgdev which put back the physical and virtual.

This time is down'ed and detached en0 using smitty chinet and not ifconfig.
The mkvdev then created the shared ethernet and it's available.

Perhaps the ODM has to be updated when the device is detached for this process to work. Just glad it's working now.

Thanks for both your responses...
