I'm not 100% sure on the termonology to use but, I have a geforce 5200 that connects via dvi to my philips 55" hdtv using 1080i display. The problem is that my picture on the tv is shaky. I have the resolution set to 1920 X 1080 with the refreh set at 60mhz.

If I drop the resolution down to 800X600 everything is clear but I can only see 1/4 the desktop.

Another problem regardless of the resolution used is, the output looks really bad, horrible colors and unreadable text.

What can I do via settings or connectors ... any help at all is greatly appreciated, because I'm lost on all of this.

thanks

1080i means interlaced. Check if your drivers let the PC output in interlaced mode. If not, your TV will never sync properly to it, because the PC will be driving the video twice too fast for it. If your PC can not drive in 1080i, look for resolutions like 720p or 480p. Your TV can probably handle these two modes. There must be something like 1280 x 720 in the resolutions list.

I set it too 800x600 480p, and the picture is ok (although it cuts most of my screen off). But when I do 480p the desktop background looks crystal clear (I have a half life 2 background, w TONS of colors in it) but whenever I pull over a window or any application everything (but the background wallpaper) is really bad looking (distorted colors and unreadable text, ect.)

and ideas on why that would happen?

also if my video card (geForce 5200) can't push out in interlaced mode, is there a convertor or something I can pick up?

thanks again!

It does not look like an easy one. It looks like getting the 5200 to output the right thing is a challenge. If you google a bit you will find different places where people have tried to connect a 5200 to HDTVs.
What are the claims of Nvidia about interfacing to HDTVs?
