shadows around images

we are a printer and are getting indesign files from outside sources and the problem we are having is that when they have put shadows around images the type close to the drop shadows is spreading.
if we eliminate the shadows the type is fine - does anyone have a possible solution - thanks mike
 
Check to be certain your are flattening in high resolution. You might also be certain that type, if black, is set to overprint instead of being part of the transparency effect.

Try putting the type on a separate layer above the transparency.
 
Try outlining the font. Type - Create Outlines. This should work as the type is then vectorized and not a font which is getting confused rasterizing with the transparency on output. . . I think!
