I am converting a file from Excel to PPT to PDF --- the file has shadow boxes throughout the document as a formatting preference. When i convert to PDF, the shadow boxes take up a huge amount of memory ---- an example - a 4 page PDF is 1.5MB --- but when I remove the shadow boxes it is only 56KB. There has to be a way to use these shadow boxes in PDF - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Uh, 1.5 MB is not a huge file, and 4 pages yet!
A couple of file reducing tricks you can try...
File---Reduce File Size or
Advanced--PDF Optimizer.
Also in Distiller, you could compress the Monochrome images further down.
(I assume your shadow boxes are filled with one color black)
Hope that gets you a smaller file

Right 1.5MB is not big - but I do have a file that is 60 plages and over 10MB that I need to e-mail to about 30 people --- it will kill their inboxes.

Is there anything to do with the fonts I can try?

Is this for print? Perhaps if it is not for print you could create a screen quality PDF. I don't think fonts are the cluttering factor.
