sgi freeware for irix

hello I just orderd an sgi O2 worksation, and I am a newbie...so could some one please tell what softwares should I download from here(

are neccessry for everyday computer needs and to insure no crashes.
P.S. I have no prgramming skills...I am simply just fed up with microsoft and want a reliable system, here are the specs of my system: R 12,000 400 mhz - 512 ram - 9 gig drive - cd

Please specify some of your everyday computing tasks to be done with the software. Otherwise it is not easy to recommend anything.

casually: surf theinternet, use programs that are work related e.g. excel, word, zip, acrobat etc...
But; mostly: and this is the reason why i bought one is to do 3d animation, I am experienced in bryce 3d, poser ilustrator, photoshop,flash. so if there are any programs with easy inerface please recomend them.
P.s. I heard of a way to upgrade the cd to dvd, could you please explain that as well.
I know these are a lot of questions, but i would really appreciate your help...
