I have been tasked with connecting our old CAT5000 switch
to extend network services to the other end the building.

We currently have two 6509 switches connected via VTP.
This is semi-greek to me... So please be patient.

I need to connect the CAT5000 now to the CAT6509 via VTP.

Could someone please instruct me on the commands
to issue on these switches ?

I have Gigabit copper on the 5000 supervisor blade.
I have a Gigabit copper/Fiber blade in the 6509's.

Thanks for the tips :-D

Cheers...

Make sure 5000 is not connected to network.
First clear the config from the "new" 5000.
Set VTP domain same as 6509s
Set VTP mode as client
connect 5000 to 6509
config the following on the 5000
set trunk 1/1 on 1-1005 dot1q
set port 1/1 enable
set port duplex 1/1 full
config the following on the 6509(if running catos)
set trunk ?/? on 1-1005 dot1q
set port ?/? enable
set port duplex ?/? full

Trunk commands only required if you are running multiple vlans.
Before connecting any VTP device ensure the VTP config version number on the new device is not higher than the live switches, otherwise the live config could be overwriiten with the old.

Sounds like this will work.
I will try it out this weekend.

Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, I get this when trying to enable trunk, can I not do this on a supervisor engine?

dnswcr5 (enable) set trunk 1/1 on 1-1005 dot1q
Adding vlans 1-1005 to allowed list.
Please use the 'clear trunk' command to remove vlans from allowed list.
Port(s) 1/1 allowed vlans modified to 1-1005.
Failed to set port 1/1 to trunk mode on.
Failed to set port 1/1 trunk type to dot1q.
Feature not supported on Module 1.
