Hi,
I been trying to set up my office VPN connection quite some time and till now, i still cannot make it. I need your help to guide me. thank you. My intention is to allow remote user access to my office network via broadband internet access.
Here is my setup info:
I'm using Cnet router My server is Windows XP professional. The server is behind the Cnet router. Cnet router is configured with a dynamic IP address and the client is also using dynamic IP. I already configured the router to forward the port 1723 to my server's IP address.
Then, when the client login to the VPN server, it verify the username and password. After that, a pop-up message said Error 800 Unable to establish VPN connection.

Can you pls help me to setup my VPN successfully?
thank you.

Regards,
charles

From experience a VPN connection works best with a static IP. Ok you using a cnet router at one end, but what is being used at the other location. Typically you want to keep the same routers in the network. An example is my company is using Netgear routers, but I am in the process of switching to Cisco. My netgear will not work correctly with Cisco without doing some tweaks.

my friend vpn works with static address which you need to buy from isp like ameritech, sprint, or even cable internet company. Static ip address is like an address to your home and thats how you can gain access.

dymanic ip like 192.x.x.x and 172.x.x.x is private class which can not be access from the outside that network hence you keep getting that error because it doesn't know where to go.

hi,

I think should be my router problems...because my router just have a PPP (point to point protocol) only!!! and not have PPTP feature!!!

So, it's mean i can't to forward port 1723???

Thanks...

charleslau2855,

I'm guessing the PPP option is for the Outbound WAN connectivity, for instance with a DSL connection where you have to supply a user name and password using PPPoE to get an IP address from your provider.

Is there an option to permit GRE traffic, in addition to the TCP 1723 forwarding?
