We have a multiple exchange 2003/AD implementation.

I want to setup Rpc over Http on my back end server only. I use the front end server for OWA but I don't want to use it for rpc over http proxy (bandwidth between the servers is low).

I've seen loads of articles for setting the FE/BE and single server only scenarios but none for the above.

Any advice appreciated.

Are all of your DCs 2003? You will need to install RPC over HTTP on each Global Catalog. Install the Exchange Tools on each DC and apply Exchange SP1 to them as well. Then select that the servers are used as a backend RPC server. You need to do this because clients can authenticate off of these servers.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

All servers are 2003 and are split into child domains. Except one child domain has a 2k svr/exchange.

I only want to enable RPC over http on one exchange server in a 2003 only domain (2 dc/GC and member Exchange svr). Is this possible?

Additional info: each child domain has at least 1 GC.

Thanks

i believe it is possible, but as I stated above you do need to install the RPC over HTTP service on all GC servers.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that.

Any links relating to this would be great.

Thanks
