Hello,

I am trying to setup NAAS (Novell Advanced Auditing Service) On NetWare 6.0 SP4e when setting up the database you sellect from on of a few choices including Pervasive my understanding is this is a 2000iSQL database.

I have edited the st_srvr.ncf on the server and started this and mrgsrart and allo seems to load OK.

I can access the system via PCC and create a database manually etc...

However when I try to create the database object via Novells ConsoleOne it fails and says

The NAAS database setup failed, could not connect to database, ensure pervasive is up by typing mgrstart at the server console

all of which I have done. Does anyone have any ideas please.

If so can you please email me at EBrant@NetworkComputers.co.uk

Because you can access the data through PCC, it's most likely a NAAS configuration issue. You'll probably want to talk to Novell about it.

Thank you for the reply,

I think so too, The problem of late with Novell (I have been working with Novell for about 15 years) Is they release new technologies but they are not always good at supporting them. The used to Public Novell APP notes that stopped these (good only know why) I think they are still available on-line).

I believe the inital problem was with the set-up in my test lab. I installed on another system and got a lot further. This time however when I tried to create the database in PCC I received an error relating to ODBC rights i.e. I did not have sufficient rights and it said look in or for the RIGHTS.DDF file (which I would not find any where) It also said do the ODBC set-up manually by using the ODBC manager in Windows 200o pro which I have used many times before for other basic ODBC drivers. I had a look at this but it was asking for the data source name etc that I do not know.

Any help would be most appreciated I will put on the top of my Christmas card list for next year!! :)

RIGHTS.DDF (and USER.DDF) should not be created unless the database has been 'secured' by setting up database security (off by default). When creating a datasource to a NetWare server, Pervasive.SQL does use a client based setup. You would create a client DSN pointing to the engine DSN residing on the server. Typically a datasource name is anything you specify. If an application needs a specific DSN name, then the docs should specify it.

Thanks very much for all your help, I will take a look at the link :) happy new year

Hello Mirtheil

Hope you have a good new year :)

I am making good progress, I have comms to the server i.e. no errors in the anaylizer etc.. I have created a database and setup the ODBC drive in Windows to access the database etc. When I look at the database object in PCC I can look at the tables and other bits under the database

The wierd thing is I canot find the database files, when I created the database I specified a directory on the novell server using a unc path \\server_1\nss\audit and it said it create OK, plus I can see the database object in PCC and query its subordinate objects i.e. tables etc but not database files on the server to be seen! Thing is I need to make sure the database is in the above directory as it will grow when used and I therefore want to make sure it is located on a drive with enough diskspace. I have also looked in the hidden directory on novell called _netware and it is not their either or at lease no files calls NAADADMN which is what I called the database. I have also turns on hidden files in case I was missing it. Can you please tell me what extention or name would the database be called. Is there some where in PCC which will tell me the location of the database?

Thanks very much

Best regards
Ernest
