hi,

I'm trying to setup Contivity VPN across the US Robotics
8054 (11g) router/ap. I've just got the device with the latest firmware (1.12h) and had no problem to set up a internet connection( despite the usr8054's bad reputation??) with PPPoE on my DSL modem. I can use the Contivity VPN client (4.65.18) when connected directly to the DSL modem via ethernet.
With the factory settings, i get the infamous 'banner text' problem, probably related to NAT in the router.

However, the USR8054 is supposed to support IPSec pass-thru (for NAT T?). There is no way to disable/enable this feature.
From posting wrt to D-link, i found one had to disable IPSec pass-thru to make it work and to map specific UDP ports used for NAT Traversal from the router's F/W to the client (VPN client).

Would anyone like to share experiences with the USR8054 for VPN IPSec setup ? I'd be interested know what is working.

Cheers,
Frank

If you have administrative control into the Contivity, then you may want to enable NAT traversal with "auto detect IPSEC NAT". This is what you should use for IPSEC aware VPN boxes. For older gear that is not IPSEC aware, use "auto detect NAT". Even with all the tweaking and tuning, there is no guarantee that all users will get access, there is just such a huge number of different IPSEC and NAT implementations out there.

Hi Frank,

I am using Contivity 4.65 thru a Netgear 8054 from my laptop. I had a lot of problems. They seemed to go away when I unistalled my TCP/IP driver (network properties) and re-installed it (on the Laptop). Also I upgraded the firmware in the wireless card but I don't think that was the problem.

If you would like to know about particular setting on the 8054 let me know, but I did not do anything special out of the box.
