I have inherited an Access97 database. I've added and removed users as needed using the Tools/Security/... Now I need to add a group to allow specific users Read Only rights. Do I need to setup each table/query/form/report for each user? When I tested it with one user the default 'User' appears as well as my ViewOnly which I think User supercedes View Only. I logged in as the ViewOnly user and he was not limited to View Only.

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Many thanks,

I had this problem - in the end I solved it by making a different front end for some users, where the forms were either read only, or where they weren't neccessary, not included.

Must say though, I had the advantage of having built the whole thing with a separate front and back end, so the read only front end was just an adapted version of the full one, and the links all worked 'out of the box'.

Access security seems to exist, but was always too much of a headache to implement. I just needed the read only users to not be able to trash data . . .!

Many thanks SimonDavis, I had not thought of duplicating the front end and creating a new MDW for this group. Fortunately, I split the database to create front/back-ends. I'll give your suggestion a try, although I wish I could have the different levels in one MDW.

Thanks again! [smile]
