We have a BCM50 R6.0 using IP1220 desksets. I have done some searching through this forum regarding using a VPN but still unsure what is required. We have a VPN presently setup between our two locations using seperate IP ranges...ie one on 192.168.1.xxx and the other location on 10.0.0.xxx. The phone has been registered and working on the BCM50 which is at the 192.168.1.xxx location. My question is can I just take the deskset to the remote office and plug into their network and it will work or do I have to do anything with the phone? New to this and any information would be appreciated.

They would work fine with VPN as long as you have no port blocking between sites . On the IP phones , you should set them up under partial DHCP where they get the IP from 10.0.0.xx and manually enter S1 and S2 with the BCM50 fixed address on the 192.168.1.xxx . If not using DHCP , you can also manually enter all the IP address for the IP sets on the 10.0.0.0 . The gateway address is your router on that segment .
To get to the IP phone, unpower and when you see Nortel or Avaya logo on the LCD, press the four buttons right below the screen ( from left to right )

Hope this help .

Thanks for the information...I am using DHCP on our network, not from the BCM50...To setup the partial DHCP, I take it that I do that in the phone itself by pressing the four buttons. If I get this working, then I would like to setup an extension at home via a VPN.

Your correct u will find the dhcp settings in the phone once u press the softkeys under the display like madwok previously stated. Remember with 6.0 u can use the NAT keycodes which allowes u to connect the ip phones without a hardware vpn. I'd suggest this for the one that u'd like to connect at your house unless u already have a vpn in place.

Thanks Jeremy,

I do not have a VPN setup home yet so is there any instructions on how to use the NAT Keycodes? I do have the CD with all the manuals. I should ask if this is included or is an additional license required? On another note, when I go into the phone, it is asking for a password. I do not remember a password being setup during installation. Is this something that I can reset using Business Elements?

registration password is set in element manager.

the initial password its asks for right after you swipe your kind of out of luck on.

Passwords are not allowed on this forum.

It might be in documentation somewhere though.

We cannot give out pswds on this forum but you should be able to find out what it is with some basic research. As far as using the NAT/Remote worker keycode you need to purchase them as they are different then your regular ip seat code. You will need need to forward misc. ports on your router to the BCM.

Thanks for all assistance. I should have paid more attention when the company setup the phones. When i go into network confirguration, I get another menu that reads "OK", "Auto", "BkSpc", and "Clear". If I want to setup partial DHCP, to get an IP and gateway but to set the BCM server static...which selection would I use?

off the top of my head you hit auto... then you uncheck S1 address then press manual it should allow you to enter a field. That is where you put the BCMs address then hit apply it should reboot then register and ask you for a registration password and dn

adlwr,
You should have something like this on 2002i, 1xxx is slightly different

• EAP Enable? (0-N,1-Y):0
• LLDP Enable? (0-N,1-Y):0
• DHCP? (0-N,1-Y):1 <====
• Cached IP? (0-N,1-Y):0
• DHCP:0-Full,1-Partial:1 ( or select full) <====
• S1 IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (Primary Server IP Address) <====
• S1 PORT: 7000 <====
• S1 ACTION: 1 <====
• S1 RETRY COUNT: 10
• S2 IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (Secondary Server IP Address)
• S2 PORT: 7000
• S2 ACTION: 1
• S2 RETRY COUNT: 10
• SPEED (0-Auto, 1-10Mb,2-100Mb):0
• Cfg XAS? (0-No,1-Yes):0
• VOICE 802.1Q (0-N, 1-Y) 0 (VLAN tagging )

You can also enter VLAN stuff for voice and data , if you use one , else let it ride on Native /untagged , OK ?

Happy 4th to all
