Hi,

Having a problem with win 98se, running gateway Pent III, 700 mg, Monitor is a VX1110 on NVIDIA Riva Tnt2, Ultra.

Don't know why but after rebooting lost all drivers. I was able to reload all but in the control panel under display, settings. Under color, 16 bit, Screen 640X480, when I attempt to change them to 256 bit, message is displayed that ask to restart PC to make changes. Reboot and settings return to 16 bit, 640x480.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated....

Thank you,

Ron

Hello Ron

Two things on this I think. After selecting 256 colour, did you click APPLY? And if you click on ADVANCED and GENERAL tab, choose the middle button, modern systems are generally OK with changing colour settings without a restart.

Can't think why you want 256 colours though - ugh! Most people use 16 bit true colour, 24 bit true colour is mostly a wasted resource. Press any key to continue or any other key to quit...

Hi Phil,

thanks for the advise, but unfortunately it didn't work. Yes, I hit the apply button, and in advanced settings the middle button, ( not to restart on changes). Still not working. Reason for the 256 bit, some of my programs will not work with 16 bit,,, in any case still can't resetting the settings.. I also checked for viruses.. with norton AV.......

Thank again....

Ron:

When the drivers first corrupted, did you simply re-install them or did you use Device manager to totally remove the video card and drivers and then re-install everything after a reboot??

Hi Murray,

Yes I simply reintalled them.... I will try using your suggestion and let you know the results....

Thanks
Ron
