Can you run 1 module 1GB DDR400 with 1 module
512 DDR333 with a AMD 3200+ XP processor and Asus A7v600-x motherboard?

and

I'm sure I always do this wrong....so I'm probably not getting my best performance or I'm frying something. What are my settings in Bios when I put in the AMD 3200xp CPU? What things do I need to set? Also, what settings need to be changed with the new DDR400 I'm using?

Best performance - not overclocking

Thanks [sadeyes]

Actually you should be able to. The earlier version of the A7V600 required PC3200 to be paired, but the v600-x does not (theoretically).

You do not want to since the Frontside Bus (FSB) runs at 400MHz for the CPU. In order for the memory to run in synch, you can only use DDR 400 modules. Using a DDR 333 module would force you to run at 333MHz asynchronous mode which would surely hurt performance. 1GB is plenty...

Okay, then technically I could use my 3200 CPU with the DDR 333 now becasue my DDR 400 is still in the mail. Correct?
It will just run at the slower asynchronous speed. Right?

Thanks for the advice!!!

Does anyone have any input on my bios settings problem?
Wondering

Yes, I've seen KT600 boards running perfectly stable with the memory clock slower than the cpu clock.

There is a manual on Asus's site if you don't have the one that came with it. It should help with most questions you on what setting is for what. Look at the Advanced menu section of the manual:

Barton CPU's run on a 200MHz true-speed frontside bus (which is rated at 400MHz). So make the bus speed is at 200 - under the CPU External Frequency setting you would want 200/33. Then make sure the memory frequency on that same page is set to 333MHz.
