Hi,

I have browsed similar posts before on this forum, but I need something to be cleared first.

Does XP Pro have builtin VPN server? Do I need to do anything to enable it?

If the answers Yes and No then here is my problem :)

I have 2 LANs. One (A) with 4 PCs (all XP) on NBG800 router connected with cable modem. Other (B) one is consist of 3 PCs (all XP) on a LinkSys router.

LinkSys have IPSEC and some other passthrus enabled. NBG800 doesn't have any passthru capability -- I just disable the whole firewall.

First I tried the remote desktop (A -> B). I did some port forwarding, and it worked just fine. However, VPN was not that easy. Port 1723 is forwarded to a certain PC, along with 3389. I can login for remote desktop, however VPN connection gives me error 800 and does nothing.

Any suggesttion is appreciated.

Thank you very much.

You do need to enable incoming connections on the XP host.

Go to network connections, create a new connection, set up an advanced connection, accept incoming connections, next, enable vpn, check users & passwords etc and finish the wizard.

FYI, if you get vpn working, your router will no longer need to forward 3389 because you'll be inside the network when you initiate RD.

I also have a user that is getting the Error 800 when trying to connect to our VPN. User is running XP thru a Linksys router using AOL Broadband. (I know aol and all..) Originally thought that it was AOL security issue until I saw this post. Is the 800 error just a stock error or does it actually have a meaning?

Thanks,

Thanks smash,

I enabled it. Now I went one step further. This time I get error 736 during registration of my computer on the network. "Remote computer terminated the connection"
