Hello,

I am new to the Solaris/UNIX enviornment and I was wondering if someone could help me (details please) get Apache web server set up (I guess apache is the best) on my Solaris system. I am running Solaris 8 and I basicly have a "fresh" system running. Have not done anything with it except configure it so I can connect to the internet. Something else I would also like to do is set it up so it can talk to other windows machines. I want to make it a file server for windows so I can transfer files back and forth. I have 2 18gb hard drives on it...plently of space.

Security is very important to me and there will only be 2 or maybe 3 users allowed to connect to the system.

Thanks!

Hi,

For web server, either you compile apache from source ( (require compiler install) or get binary version from
For file sharing with windows, either use samba ( or setup nfs server where your windows machine require nfs client install.

Configuration for both service require searching on google.com which will bring back lots of result.

If security is an issue, then I would not recommend either Samba or NFS ......
