Setting up RIS on a virtual team (W2k3) - Contract for a sysadmin

Hi,

I don't really have time to being fiddling with this (nor the knowledge), so I'm in the search of a knowledgable sys admin who can guide me whenever I need to configure anything Win2k3 related, like RIS, LDAP, AD issues, etc. See at the bottom if you're interested.

Anyway, in the mean time, I'm trying to configure a RIS server inside a virtual machine (VMware).

I have a physical machine that is the primary AD controller, DHCP & DNS server.

Then, I have a workstation, member of the domain, which has VMware running with two machines using bridged networking.

The first VM has Windows 2003 Std installed and configured with DHCP and RIS. DHCP is authorized on this machine (static IP 192.168.0.10)

No events are recorded regarding RIS malfunction. And risetup -check runs with green flags.

Then, when the second VM starts and I try to network boot using PXE, it never receives an IP, and neither the DC nor the RIS server report any DHCP leases.

So, what would be the problem here?

Thanks in advance.

In case you're interested in filling the position of outsourced sys admin, what I need is someone that can assist me through e-mail whenever I need help. That simple.

I think an hourly rate would be best.

I've seen this before on VMs using NIC cards other than standard Intel PRO's. I suppose you could have issues with the virtual switch but it's pretty simple so I doubt it.

Sorry, it was stupid me... I forgot to authorize the RIS server on AD to serve clients...

I almost banged my head against the wall but the joy of magically seeing a computer boot from "air" overwhelmed me, LOL.
