Setting up IPOffice with HP switches using vlans

I'm setting up IP Office (using Avaya IP phone sets), the setup is with HP switches.

On the HP switch I have created 2 vlans, one for the network and the other for IP Office. On ports were AVAYA IP sets are connected I have tagged vlan for IP Office. Were the IP Office PBX is connected that port is untagged.

Avaya IP sets get register correctly to IP Office PBX, I have access from this ports to local network.

The problem is that I cannot ping from any port the IP Office PBX, so I can not access from the Manager.

Any suggestions on what could be the problem or what I'm missing?

Looking forward to all your comments.

You need to setup routing between the VLANs and/or add an IP route for the other subnet into the IP Office config :)

As you have tagged ports, your PC is in the default LAN, and IPO is not as that is in an untagged Voice VLAN port.

Either plug the 2nd IPO LAN port into an untagged data VLAN port or use the HP to route the traffic if it can. Or setup another untagged Voice VLAN port and use it for an IP Maint port to restrict access.

What amriddle01 and jamie77 said.
Just to elaborate a little bit.
If your switch is a layer 3 switch then you can do the routing in the switch otherwise you need to have the router do the routing but that also would need 2 interfaces to access both VLAN's with either VLAN tagging or 2 ports on it that connect to 2 untagged ports on the switch (one for each VLAN)

Thanks for your answers and suggestions.

This is the scenario.

Users network is 192.168.6.x
IP Office network is 192.168.43.x
IP Office 192.168.43.1

Phone sets are in vlan 11, switched ports are tagged with vlan 11, IP Office switch port is untagged.

phone sets register and calls can be made, phone sets are configured with static IP or dhcp from the IP Office.

in my laptop I configure a static IP from the 192.168.43.x network and cannot access or ping the IP Office 192.168.43.1, I connect my laptop to a tagged port vlan 11, an untagged port and also to a phone set, but on none of them I could access the IP Office.

I can ping anything else on the network including phone sets.

Were the phones manually configured with VLAN 11?

Phones can send VLAN tagging information, and SOME laptops/PCs network cards can as well, but most don't or are not configured to tag on a specific VLAN.

Yes phones were configured manually with vlan 11

Then, as stated above, you need to setup routing between the two networks. Or, change LAN1 on the IP Office to use a data network IP address and connect LAN1 to the data VLAN network.

--DB

LAN 1 is used by telephony network and LAN 2 is used for SIP trunk lines.

I'm checking the HP switch and I cannot find anything on routing.

Looks like you're using the WAN (LAN-2) port on the IP Office, (43.1), so set the LAN port (LAN-1)to 192.168.6.x and put it on the data network.

The HP switch may only be a Layer 2 switch and you will need to use the router to create another network and then connect that port to the voice VLAN 11.

--DB

The PC will always be part of the untagged VLAN when connected to a port with an untagged and a tagged VLAN. Regardless if the PC is connected directly to the switch or if it is behind a phone.
