I bought a CS1000 rel 4.5 on the used market. This is my first time with an ethernet enabled Nortel switch and I haven't a clue how to get it set up or for that matter how I'm going to have 3 lans (TLAN, CLAN, ELAN) and only having one ethernet port on the back of each core... Is there VLAN tagging somewhere going on? It looks like the ethernet was an afterthought as well as it's a db15 to rj45 transceiver. Can someone point me to a pub or something that will help?

You need to make sure youre system has a Signaling Server and appropriate dsp resource or an MC3s card or ITG but it sounds to me like you have a CS1000 with no IP cards. But if you could list the cards it would help.

Thanks,
Colin

As far as CEQU goes all the cards are pretty standard, I do have a "MGATE" card in an IPE shelf as well as a signaling server

Yes I just figured that out while researching something else... This switch is licensed for IP (sip, h323, nortel ip, sip converged desktop, etc etc. I know it has the capability I'm just used to working on a release 23 switch with absolutely no frills so this is all new to me

Find a book and start reading. The IP stuff in 4.5 is fairly easy. When you get into 6.0 and above is when you start using Linux and it gets a lot more involved.

Love to, can you point me to the correct NTP? Honestly I wish it were Linux based! I'm quite proficient in that...
