Hi

We are currently undergoing what can only be described as the install from hell! We had and ip office 412 with 70 5620sw phones and a vcm 30. The system runs on a HP 2600 series switched network.

The problem is that the installers seem to know less than we do about the system and the resultant performance of the system is terrible with dropped calls and network problems.

My question is this, should we set up vlans on the switches for both the phones and the pc’s, printers etc. If so how should be approach this? Any help would be appreciated as it is going to be up to us to solve the problem and then to seek financial restitution from the supplier.

Thanks

Unfortunatly I now little about networking. Avaya advices to setup VLans on the LAN, one for data and the other for voice. But more importantly have you setup DCSPs for the voice source and destinations IPs or the correct ports on the procurves? show qos is the syntax in CLI config mode. If the command is not recognized, the switches do not have the right firmware for qos support. upload the new sw.
The documentation of HP procurve says something of priority and packets beeing dropped when traffic runs from a tagged port to an untagged port. I don't exactly know what they mean by that, maybe you can explain it to me, if it was of any help

I hate to say this, but it's been announced that any IP Office with any type of IP implementation it's required that a network assessment is done. Not only does the network assessment find any issues or problems within your network, it also makes suggestions such as implementing VLAN's, etc.

The other concern I would have is the fact you're running all IP Hard phones (70) with only a VCM 30.

I would recommend looking for another Avaya Business Partner in the area who has history in installing IP Office and bringing them onboard to assist in recovering your install.

In addition to the VLAN's, also ensure QoS is enabled.

im with bwilch you really need a good business partner.

The phone,s must be in a diffrent V-lan, this must be configured in the switches but also in the IP-Phone,s
Then you must configure on the switch the native V-lan.
The IP-Phones are using difserv and are tagging the frame,s
of the data from the phones so the get priority on your network.
The PC connected at the phone will go ontagged to the switch and wil be in the native V-Lan.
You also need to measure this (very importan) and see if everything works great and voice pakkets get priority.
If the network is not set the rightway than you are in a hell olright.

Also if the IP-Office is no programmed right you get strange problems.
