I have two domain names lets say for instance I host test1.com and test2.com well I want to host email with both domains. after I install exchange what do I have to do to configure it for both domains? Do I just add new smtp? and if so how does it know to route etc?? please help

To host multiple domains in EX2K:
Simple: Add the additional domain to your default recipient policy in System Manager (@second-domain.com).
Advanced: Add SMTP virtual server (uses additional ip). Hope this helps. ---Collin

Where is the default recipiant policy? Also do I have to do any other setup. And how do you set it up so that users can get their mail with pop 3?

To update the default recipient policy (I will use entire path, hope this doesn't offend you) START> PROGRAMS> MICROSOFT EXCHANGE> SYSTEM MANAGER> expand RECIPIENTS> expand RECIPIENT POLICIES> right-click DEFAULT POLICY> PROPERTIES> EMAIL ADDRESSES> NEW> SMTP ADDRESS> OK> in the address space put your second FQDN (@second-domain.com)> APPLY> OK> if you want new users you create to use the new domain check the box beside it in GENERATION RULES. (You dont have to check this box to get mail on this domain.)
If your users are local I would recomend using Exchange Service in Outlook, but it sounds like you are hosting mail for remote users. In this case, assuming you are not behind a firewall, they just have to setup a pop3 client like Outlook or Outlook Express ETC, setting the server to your mail server ip or dns. Also, you did not mention DNS, are you hosting you own DNS? Because you have to add MX and A records for the mail server in the zone of the second domain. Good luck! let me know! ---- Collin

Dc,
very helpful, one more question. Do I now need to create users on my local domain? I don't want the remote people to be able to log onto my local domain, just to be able to retreive their mail via POP3.

I looked at creating a new user, but it only gives the option of localdomain.com even though i added domaintwo.com as an smtp server in default policy.

TIA

I am personally a *N*X guy. So I am a touch lost in E2K/W2K
