Hello, I am a newbie to MySQL and am trying to set up a clone of my site which is hosted on Linux server. I have winxp, PHP, phpmyadmin, and MySQL Sever set up on Laptop.

I can get my server running, and myphpadmin, the problem is when I try and setup my database and change USERNAME from "root" to "HOST_USER_NAME" I get errors in php program.

Is there a good tutorial which gives a step by step on this type of setup.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure that you've got a grant statement in there for your local user you're trying to connect with. Chances are, if you're hosting with a linux provider, they've already granted your username privileges for your database. (Or did you say your user was 'root'? Do you have a virtual/dedicated server allocated to you?)
