Is there a way to set up a Paragraph style or anything that will do auto numbering in list format, like Word does, when you type number 1 and text after it and hit return and it automatically turns to #2 in a list format. Here's what i'm talking about below:

1. text here
2. text here
3. text here
4. text here

And if I need to insert a new # in between any two numbers, all the others numbers update the order automatically. So If I inserted a new line between #2. and #3., then the old #3 would change to #4. etc..

I'm doing a software training manual and there are steps that need to be set up as a numbered list of steps (ie step 1 thru step 6) within the flow of text within a text box. I'm stressing out, cause I my client needs this done and I wasn't sure if it could be done with Indesign CS or CS2

Yes, but only in Indesign CS2.

When you are define new paragraph style in indesign CS2 there is a section "Bullets and numbering".

In this section you define the numbering like in MS Word.

In CS, Bullets and numbering - in the paragrph styles window - is the last thing on the list of items on the left of the window.
