Still battling this 9608 firmware issue. SO I am trying HFS as a HTTP server. Free and simple, I like that. I have it pointed to the Manager folder. Do I need to place a copy of 46xxsettings.txt and 96x1Hupdate.txt into the system folder on my http server to make this work? Does it need to go someplace special?

Place in the root of the fileserver, on another PC you should be able to get the file using Address web server/filename
You can use a text file and it should display the contents in the webpage.

Here is a example to use apache as the avaya webserver.
Avaya has a free http/tftp/ftp server to use here, although not supported anymore it works just fine on my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop.

Why not just use IIS?
its also free and probably even simpler as you only have to create virtual folder pointing to the manager folder or just point the there.
If using a virtual folder, add HTTPDIR=virtualfoldername to the DHCP option 242

To use MS IIS as a backup/restore webserver you need to install PHP and have to change some settings in IIS.
I prefer Avaya's MV Iptel or Apache as these are more secure and have a lower footprint on the server because these can be setup just for this dedicated task without severe reconfiguration as IIS needs.

When I set these things up, rarely will I be doing the management. That almost always goes to a staff IT person. I installed HFS and it worked like a charm. All the phones came up with no trouble. It is a very clean, stand alone app. No registry, no services, just a clean program you add to your startup list.

I use mongoose for that.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I prefer to use IP Office when installation has completed, during install I use MV Iptel but that is my personal approach, any approach is ok if it suits your needs.

I also use HFS . Yes you should drop the 46XX file and 96X1upgrad file into a root folder under C:.
C:/(HFS Folder)

It's only dialtone!!!

Put the entire contents of the zip file (not just the 96x1Hupgrade.txt) in the HTTP root folder.
