Setting up 2 DNS servers for 1 domain 1

I currently have a NT 4.0 PDC with running internal DNS for my company. We have currently added a new building bringing about 30 people. I installed a NT 4.0 BDC to reduce netlogon traffic, but still need to reduce traffic furhter. I attempted to setup the DNS server on the BDC as a secondary DNS server on the Domain. The new building clients point to the BDC as thier primary DNS server. This works fine for internal addresses.

The problem I am having is that some external addresses cannot be resolved. I added an external DNS entry to the servers IP config without any change. When I add an external DNS server entry in the clients network settings, this solves the resolution problem. This is now causing more traffic than needed.

Is there a way I can have the new locations BDC provide DNS (External and Internal) for the new network on the same domain? or am I missing a step here.

Configure your DNS server to use a Forwarder and point it to the IP address of your ISP's DNS. Anything your DNS can't resolve will be passed to the ISP's DNS and back to your DNS server which will serve it back to the client's.

Thanks. That was only part of my problem. I also found that I had a corrupt cache file, Q317022. Once I setup the forwarding and replaced the cache file, everything was working fine.

May I also add to point to your own DNS for internal IP Adresses as well

Dumb question, but how do I configure my NT4 DNS server to use a forwarder?

Open DNS Manager. Right click on your server (the IP address below Server List), select Properties, click the Forwarders tab, check the box 'User Forwarder(s)'. Enter in the DNS server IP(s) you wish to use).
