How do you set the number of DOS file handles in Windows 2000?

Open the system.ini file in c:\windows and add this line on the first line in the 386enh section:

PerVmFiles=254

I posted this same question in a different forum and got a different answer. There I was told to put FILES=xxx in the Config.nt. Which one is it? I know that setting PerVMFiles in the system.ini works for Windows ME but is it the same in 2000?

Windows 2000 uses config.nt and autoexec.nt as dos startup files. Usually they are located in the windows\system32 subdirectory and can be modified to use. I can make clipper work in windows 2000 but certain devices such as the mouse do not work right. You are probably better off to begin a switch to xbase++ to guarantee the future of your software.
