i have a directory being share via samba the share name is apps and the director under apps is platinum

i want to give everybody read write execute permissions on the platinum directory but "chmod 7777 apps/platinum" does does not set permissions for sub folders. also any files created in this directory by any one i want those new files to automatically have the read write execute perms. or is its possible to make a group which have all access to this folder?

To make the command recursive, use the -R option. i.e. chmod -R 777 dirname. This will cause "dirname" and all its subdirectories to be set to 777.

you may make a group ie. ntadmin. chgrp -R ntadmin platinum. that will set ownership to group ntadmin. then set permissions to 774. allows owner and group rwx, but others only have read.
