Setting Default Acrobat

I have both Acrobat Reader and the full version on my system. I installed the full version after the reader, but now whenever I click on a .pdf file, the full version opens, which is slower on my modest system. Even when I tell Windows to always use the reader to open a .pdf, it still defaults to the full version. How can I make Acrobat Reader the default? I'm running Win98SE and both Acrobats are 5.0.

Oldyellr, have you found a fix? I am having the same problem on 1 PC of 6 with the Acrobat/Reader combo. All are 7.08

No. The only workaround I have is to open Acrobat Reader before opening a .pdf in Firefox to keep the full version of Adobe Acrobat from starting. It's not a problem when in Windows Explorer, only my browser. One thing I haven't tried is uninstalling both Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader and re-installing them in a different order. One of these days...

You have to change your prefs in Firefox. Go to prefs/downloads. clcik View and Edit Actions. Clcik on teh pdf section and then Change Action. Check "open with this application" and browse till you get Reader.

You could try changing the file type (pdf) program association in My Computer, View, Folder options, File type.

I went through that before and ended up that the Reader opened the file, but not seamlessly within Firefox. When that happens, the links in the .pdf didn't work. I went back to using the Adobe Acrobat plugin, which works seamlessly, but won't choose Reader by default. Methinks the plugin isn't smart enough.

diogenes10, I do have the right file association in Windows and Acrobat Reader opens the files when using Explorer. It's the Firefox plugin that chooses Adobe Acrobat.

I don't use firefox.

Don't know if that would work across to firefox too or not.

Again. It MUST be set in Firefox preferences. If not manually set, Firefox will default to the machine's set application - in your case Acrabat rather than Reader. If your browser is NOT displaying the pdf directly in teh browser, but opeing it in another app - Acrobat or Reader - there is no plugin involved.
