Hi,

I have a Project template that I created with several columns that do not come standard in Project. I used Organizer to add those columns to the GLOBAL file but I still have to add those columns manually every time I open a new file or project. Is there anyway to make my template the default template so that the columns will already by visible when Project is opened? Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

I developed a template for our company wide use to help standardize our aerospace projects. I also have several specific columns which are utilized as a standard project requirement. We now have this template on an intranet for MSP users to access and create new projects or to integrate into their existing projects in MSP. I could be wrong but I do not think there is a way around having to use the Organizer to ADD the templates field in the existing MSP schedules. If there is I could use it as well, fortunately for us we have about a 50/50 mix of those using/not using schedules so it's not too bad.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards,
Brett

Easy part:

1. Create a Table with the columns you want.
View > Table:XXXXX > More tables > new
2. Create a View that uses that table.
View > More Views > New
3. File > Save As at the Bottom change "Save as Type" to template and save the file.

Hard part:
Making sure everyone starts a new project with your blank template.

Bonus Credit:
Create copies of the your tables and views and don't have them appear in the list of Tables or Views. Then, when somebody mucks up the layout of your views you can easy recreate them by copying the copies you just made over the mucked up tables and views.
