Q1 is there another way to set the time other than the web browser like maybe from the autosat command line or somthing.
AND

Q2 We have a switch that isclocking from NTP and it keeps getting fast on the switch by between 4 and 6 mins.

any thoughts

It is possible with the "sudo date" command in the telnet session.

I would check in the Web Browser to see if the system is connecting to the NTP server. Unless your NTP server is gaining time this should not happen. Use the Network Time Sync button on the web page, make sure it does not say stratum 16

I will thanks Tolson.

also imgine I am at the command line where you would type autosat and you want to set the time talk me through how and what you would type? I know its like Q1 but i just want the idiot guide on how its done.

Cheers if you can help on this.

If you are using 8700 servers, log into each server separately and make sure they are both syncing to NTP. I was losing time on mine for a while, and realized that only the stand-by server was syncing to NTP.

I understand that 84mike but how do you set it using the suedo date command on the bash command line ie(where you type autosat).

First off you must use the web interface to set the time in an S8700.

Second you must use Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 servers as your NTP servers. If Your using a linux or unix box the Definity probably wont sync time from it.

We have a linux box and it used CDMA for its NTP protocol and the S8700 wont sync off of it.

When using Windows NTP servers you must also make sure that the clock dispersion is set to 10 for Windows2003 and I believe its 12 for Win 2000.

I also believe it used UDP port 123 so make sure your not blocking that in your network.
