We have a mics and we are moving to a different floor. Will turning on set relocation before shutting down the mics work?
We are thinking of leaving the set relocation to yes and then we shut down the mics and then move the mics to its new floor while phones will also be moved and we will just punch down all station ports.
just dont know if and when all station ports are punched down and all phones are connected even without a proper cut sheet to identify the extension and port number when the mics is powered back on. will the phones be able to retain their extension numbers?

Turn if off!!

set relocation is made for only moving two phones at a time, if you try it with three or more phones it just gets screwed up. go into maintenance-->Port/DN Status and write down the order that the stations are in on the system so you know where to punch down the wires to when you move to new blocks/cross connect field.

As Jerry Reeve said, the answer to your question is NO. In fact most vendors agree that set relocation is a feature that is best left off. If you want your move to go smoothly, and your system to operate correctly then calling a qualified Nortel vendor would be the way to go. If they are competent they will map the extensions before the move so that everyone will have the same DN once you are back in service.

thank you guys, i thought set relocation can be used for that purpose. it does makes sense to write down where each port and extension goes,

As Much as I trust everybody's advice here .. I rarely have any problems with Set Relocation (except with 6.0 software) and I have done hundreds of moves (small ones though, about 16 sets or so) using set relocation. (I just activate all necessary jacks, tell people to move their phones with the rest of their things. When they come to their office they plug it in and all works.

If it doesn't work .. well then u just end up doing what everyone is saying to do anyways. (mapping the ports)

Yes, using it as it designed will work (until a power outage, or some other trouble-shooting is necessary)- but using it as a way to move your system (all at once) will definitely not work.

As the name implies ...
it is Set Relocation (when system is fixed)and NOT system relocation

digitalmind you are correct it works well as long as you are doing it and keeping up with the papperwork. But turn it on and let the users know it's on then go back after a few months to troubleshoot a problem,,,,what a nightmare
