I have a couple of locations, with Norstars, that have particular sets that will lose their display. I first thought it was the phone going out, but if you unplug the set and leave it for a couple of min., when you plug it back in, the display will come back. This does not always happen though. Sometimes, if you change out the set, the display will work for a while, then start acting up.

Anyone else have this problem? What is the cause/cure?

Thanks
cd

never had that one but you can try when the display goes away to just use the contrast control feat. ( feat.*7 ) then press up/down on your softkeys to see if that brings back the display for you.

Don't think that is the problem. Some of the sets will have nonsense characters on the display. Not just a blank screen.

Does the problem follow the set? Or, does the problem always happen at particular location(s), regardless of the phone?

I've heard that some of the T7316/T7316e sets have loose ribbon cables that connect to the LCD. Perhaps moving the phone ever so slightly is enough for the contact to become closed

I have replaced the set and had the trouble stay and I have unpluged/pluged in the set with trouble and had the trouble stay.

Could the station card cause this? I have not tried to move the trouble sets to another port.

Are the problem sets on long cable runs? That is the kind of problem you get if runs are long, or problems with cabling. Nothing to do with set relocation.

Not true Marv....I have had set relo corruption do that to sets...I also had a customer with phones on outside buried cable about 1 1/2x Nortels recommended distance of 1000'-1200' w/o SAPS that ran ok.

What release is this software? I seem to remember this problem a few years ago and I belive it was 6.1 software. The problem occured when parking calls.

The cable runs are relatively short. Small bank branches. As a rule, we disallow set relocation, but I will check it. I believe the realeases are 6.?, but we very rarely use call park.

Does no one think it might be the station card?

Sorry gforce9, I have never seen that with set relocation on, but it is quite rare that I have any site that I allow set relocation on. I spoke out of turn.

Have you checked the following:
[ul][li]Connections on the 66 block[/li]
[li]Connections at the jack at the desk[/li]
[li]If using a "punch down" at a desk, try swapping the connector[/li]
[/ul]

It almost sounds as though when the sets are first connected, there is enough built-up "energy" in the connection to properly power the display, but then as the phone is utilizing the power, there simply isn't enough to properly power the LCD. Hence, it seems like a poor connection (or possibly a failing power supply).

Please keep us posted...

No problem, Marv.......I discourage Auto Set Corruption....I mean Relocation, too. Sometimes, people just insist.......

Another thought on this: Make sure to use a single pair, (2 wire) cord to the phones with the problems. I have seen some strange wiring done where the second pair is being used for something else. Another device or another extension, which is also inputing the signal onto the power pair for the set.

When all else fails try a system reboot. It worked for a co-worker of mine that had this same problem.

I had this similar problem on a system. Was a MICS I believe, but i can not remember the software version. I was connecting T series phones to the system. Occasionally a certain extension would loose the display. Unplug the phne and voila, the display woudl come back. For a day or two. I verifying cabling was 100% and swapped phone with identical T7208, and then tried moving to new port, same problem (could have been multiple bad ports on KSU)I eventually gave the person a M7208, and voila, not another complaint in 6 months. go figure.

I have experienced similar display problems with T7316's that were made in Mexico. Overall, the quality of the T-Series, as many have said before, "is not that great".

MAke sure the voltage at jack is 19 vdc.. below that phones dont work correctly.I have had lighting hits that caused a slow drop over a 1 to 2 week time period untill voltage dropped to about 12 to 14 and sets were unusable and had to replace station mod or ksu's.
