Hey All,

Is there a way of killing services that are hung in either the Starting or Stopping State. (Other then rebooting the machine).

While services are like this I can start or alter the properties of any other services on that machine.

Cheers

Brad

check your process running in the background...

ctrl - shift - esc

There are utils available which can force the termination of a service which appears to be standing still. Though from experience a reboot was mainly necessary. Maybe worth examining what the service is waiting for to stop or start.....

filemon or regmon could possibly be of some use as a (long) long shot.

Hey Guys,

Thank you for your response. I have tried using the Kill.exe utility from the support tools however this does not exactly help Services in the hung state as the Service Control Manager is not responding as well.

The only Way I have found was to restart the computer into safe mode switch off the problem services, reboot and then manually turn them back on.

There was a dependency somewhere else that was failing.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers

Brad
