ive created a customer database, ive created a forum where new customer can be added, edited, deleted, but i need to create a forum where i can input details of jobs done to that customers, and to keep the jobs in a history database or something like that where i can view them anytime. I would like it so that u can go to the customer record then click a button to bring up a forum to add a new job, and also able to look at the over jobs done for that customer

I also want the jobs to be kept seperatly from each customer so there not all mixed together

thanks for any advice

Welcome to Tek-Tips.

May I offer a somewhat different solution?

Create a Customer Form and add a Jobs subform. They can be tied together with a CustomerID number. This way, without pushing any buttons, you can view the customer information and scroll through the subform for job information.

With the Jobs having a CustomerID number assigned, they CAN all be stored in a single Jobs table. This will make for a much better database design.

I used to be in a job where I had to track the status of administrative hearings. I had Taxpayer (customer) information in the MainForm and the Hearing status in the subform. I included a yes/no check box with each subform record so that only the current status would print in my status report. It worked very well.

One caveat - this suggestion might NOT work as well for you, depending on how much information you must capture about each job. I personally like to keep my subforms 100% visible without scrolling left/right.

Just a few thoughts.

Good Luck!
Tim

Ive created a subform to add the jobs info onto, but the info doesnt stay onto the form, when i look at the tables its stored in the database but dosent show on the form, im not sure what im doing wrong any advice ?

Ive got my subform working now, but i want a print feature, but when i add a print button its set up to print all the pages, how do i set it up to print the customer which is displayed on the main forum, and also print the subforum info underneath at the same time ?

RyDan46,

Please forgive my absence. I don't have the answer you need (I never had these issues with subforms!) I've also never had so much stress at work, so I can't be here to see this one through. Please don't think ill of me- I tried to help, and I hope others will step in to complete the answer.

Please don't leave Tek-Tips- I'm sure you'll get an answer!

Tim

It is not usually a good idea to print forms. You should investigate creating a report, which is better suited to printing.

its ok dont worry, ive got most of it done now, i only need to sort the print problem out and then its done, thanks for the help
