I moved our help desk application from one server to another (it's called TrackIt). When I installed it, everything from the SQL database came over fine, everything looked great. I rebooted, and got the message that a service could not start. Turns out it is the TrackIt Server Services that will not start. Go into to Services to try again, and I get the following error:

Error 5: Access is denied.

I checked the .exe file, the security for that is the same as the folder it resides in, which allows me access to everything else in there. And I installed it as Administrator and logged back in as Administrator. I checked the service dependencies and the RPC service it depends on is started.

I email their support - I get the answer I expect, of course it's not their fault, it's an authorization prblem within windows. (No kidding!)

Anyone know how I can try and resolve this? Thanks!

Does TrackIT use active directory to run? If so, I've run into similiar problems w/ a different software that uses active directory & might could help.

Go into properties for the service.
On the Log On tab, How is the service starting up?
Local system account or specific account?

Try changing the logon account.

I should have known it had something to do with the damn program... don't even ask, I had to poke around trying everything and it turns out it DELETES that service and adds another in it's place. Sure, whatever, makes sense to me!
