Currently running a 3 server metaframe xp farm with feature release 2 and windows 2000 service pack 3. We have a few issues at the moment and looking at other forums this setup seems to be causing other people problems as well. Was looking at going to sp4/fr3 with all the hotfixes but people are saying not to touch sp4 at the moment. I was wondering what people's thoughts are on this and would also like comments on a fr3/sp3 setup. Some people I've spoken to have said that they're using fr3/sp4 with no issues.

The biggest issue I found going to FR3 SP4 was with NFUSE. There was a couple of fixes (not yet released to the public) that I had to hunt down through MS but overall I was able to get things back to normal within 4 hours or so.

I am not sure why specifically you would want to move? I can maybe give you a way to get the same results without going through the pain of updating. If your installation is on a heavy production node then this would indicate to me you should update when you have a couple of days of down time.

if you go to SP4 (Windows), you will kill your ctx box(s). Ther is a MS fix for SP4 on a WTS.

I am running a farm of 7 XP machines with FR2, WSP3- w/out any issues at all... what kind of issues are you trying to get rid of??

It's not true that you will "kill your Citrix boxes" - but there are a number of issues you may have to overcome. Tokeshi.com lists quite a few - but I've found that simply applying all the newest MS hotfixes and security updates fixes most issues. The most annoying I've found is that on Windows 2000 servers you seem to need to delete and recreate the ICA Connection Configuration - can't find an automatic way of doing this - anyone?

I've got SP4 on all my production W2k servers now.

Must document all the tweaks (I just got one server working, then I imaged it)...

Hope this helps

The main problem I have is when applications crash. I cannot terminate these through the Citrix Management Console or by using end process in the task manager. I have even tried using kill and pskill commands and these do not work.

When you right click the program in the task bar and say close it brings up a message box with the end now option. Clicking on end now brings up the message,
"This program cannot be closed. If it is being debugged, please resume it or close the debugger first."

To clear this users have to log out and then log back in again.

I run the EXACT same platform and I was told by technical support today that if I move from FR2 to FR3, I should avoid SP4. Too many issues reported.

Thank you KCDave03!! :) I agree... however, I don't think "citrixengineer" does... I'd rather avoid the hassel of all the fixes and tweaks all together and stay at SP3, w/ either FR 2 or 3. :)
