My company is going to be purchasing a document imaging product that requires service pack 1 for Server 2003. Question being if we buy Server 2003 with SP2 can we rollback to SP1 without any major issues?
I doubt there will be any rollback facility if you install from a Windows Server 2003 SP2 CD or purchase a server with Windows Server 2003 as the SP1 files will not be present on the server to rollback to. Even if you tried installing SP1 I doubt it would let you and even if it did, you would probably have a screwed server.
I would suggest that the product requires a MINIMUM of Windows Server 2003 SP1 to work and it may be worth checking with the vendor of the product to see whether they know of any issues with running the software on an SP2 server.

I hear your suggestion and I agree with you. However in the situation I am in, I don’t make those decisions, I’m just the guy that gets blamed if it doesn’t work. I have checked with the vendor and talked to software engineers, they say that as of now the product is only compatible with SP1. It amazes me seeing as the MS 07 line is already out and I’m sure they are already working on what’s next…
Anyways…. Because we are going to need product support I am not going to go with SP2 and just cross my fingers…So now I need to find a way to get 2003 server with SP1…
