ServerRAID-3L

I just bought a secondhand serverRAID-3L card. The bios on the card is 7.1018.
I'm having some trouble configuring 3 disks in 2 arrays. The 3rd disk (single disk array) always goes defunct when I hit the "Apply" button.
I'm wondering is the current bios correct for this card.

What version of serverRAID configuration software should I be using.

I've been doing some more reading and I think this condition may be due to incompatible bios levels in the server. Problem might be I am trying to install this to a Netfinity 3500 server.
Since the latest server bios is 1999 (present on this machine) could someone tell me if I need to update the ServerRaid bios to level 3.50?

What are the risks of doing that to a card that already has 7.1018?
